A man was arrested and charged with insurance fraud, two counts of notary fraud, one count of common law forgery, once count of common law uttering, one count of obtaining property by false pretense and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense. All the charges are considered felonies. The man filed a claim for a stolen engagement ring worth $59,675 and a stolen college class ring worth $4,000. He claimed that the rings were stolen from his property by Airbnb guests. He was paid $59,675 for the engagement ring by his insurer. Upon investigation the insurer discovered that the man knew his ex-fiance still had the engagement ring. The man began dating another woman who was a notary, and he used her stamp and forged her signature on the sworn statement of loss required by his insurer.
