Fraud of the Week
Auto Fraud – Florida
Amount – $83,800
A former professional baseball player was charged with four others for insurance fraud for staging an auto accident and providing false documents of the accident to the police. The four made claims for medical treatment for injuries that they did not actually sustain. The insurer received bills for $61,000 from two clinics and over $22,800 was paid for therapy to which none of the claimants were entitled. All four were arrested and face up to ten years in prison if convicted.
