The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) issued a data call for all insurance companies writing commercial property or businessowners insurance in the state. The data call is for the 2023 property direct written premiums in the Texas catastrophe area and is necessary for the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) to calculate participation shares for assessments.

The Data Call Instructions defines the Texas catastrophe area as the area comprising these counties: Aranas, Brazoria, Calhoun, Cameron, Chambers, Galveston, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Willacy, and portions of Harris County.

These types of companies must respond to the data call:

  • Companies reporting 2023 Texas commercial property or businessowners statistical data to ISO, under a minimum or limited reporting format that does not include ZIP code level detail.
  • Companies reporting 2023 Texas commercial property or businessowners statistical data to ISO, under a full reporting plan format where all four quarters of 2023 data have not been fully accepted by ISO as of February 29, 2024. These companies must report premiums for the entire year, not just the quarters that ISO has not fully accepted.
  • Farm mutual insurance companies acting as fronting insurers.

Companies subject to the data call are required to submit the data call form and affidavit even if the company doesn't write any applicable business in the Texas catastrophe area. The forms are due by May 31, 2024.

The bulletin can be found here.
