Vehicle Fraud – Idaho
Amount – unknown
A woman has been sentenced for one count of felony insurance fraud for making claims for prexisting damage. She had an auto accident in June of 2020, but had no insurance at the time. She purchased a policy the next day and filed a claim for the pre-existing damage. The claim was denied since the policy was not in force at the time of the loss. She then applied for another policy with a different insurer. When confronted about the damage to the vehicle and the earlier claim, she claimed that there was no damage from the first accident. Upon investigation, the insurer denied the claim when it discovered the damage was preexisting.
She was placed on supervised probation for three years and ordered to serve 50 hours of community service. She was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000 and restitution of $1,351.90 to the insurer and $720.85 to the Department of Insurance.
