Homeowners Fraud – Michigan
Amount – Unknown
An insured has been found guilty of one count of Arson of an Insured Dwelling which can carry a life sentence, and one count of 2nd Degree Arson which is a 20-year felony. Both counts may carry a fine of $20,000 or three times the value of the property, whichever is greater. The dwelling burned and the insured made a claim against his homeowners policy. Upon investigation, it was determined that the fire started in three separate, unconnected rooms in the dwelling, and gasoline was found throughout the home. It was determined that the fire was caused by human, and not natural causes. The insured's vehicle showed that he was parked at the residence less than two hours before the fire was reported to authorities by a neighbor.
