Grants for Investigation of Fraud – California

Amount $50.5 million

At the end of June commissioner Lara announced that $50 million in grants had been awarded to 34 district attorney offices, representing 33 counties in California, in order to help combat insurance fraud. The grants are used to support law enforcement efforts in investigating and prosecuting insurance fraud and increase outreach to local communities. An additional $400,000 has been set aside to protect consumers from abuse from the sale of life and annuity products. The outreach programs strive to educate consumers about their rights when it comes to insurance and protecting themselves and their families. The grants also work to combat workers compensation fraud, employer premium fraud, employer defrauding employee fraud, insider fraud, claimant fraud, uninsured employers operating within the underground economy, and exploitation of workers as well.
