Fraud of the Week

Auto fraud – California

Amount – $35,000

A joint investigation by the California Department of Insurance and the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office led to the arrest and arraignment of a driver on 54 felony counts of insurance fraud, assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving. He staged collisions with unsuspecting drivers in order to claim damages of over $35,000 against insurance companies. He would hide in the other drivers' blind spots and as the other drivers tried to change lanes he would accelerate and sometimes turn into the other vehicles. He then would file a claim against the other driver's insurance company. He would record the accidents and post them on his YouTube channel to highlight "bad drivers" in the area.
