Vehicle Arson – South Carolina

Amount – Between $2,000 and $10,000

A man has been arrested and charged with one count of Presenting a False Claim for an Insurance Payment, value greater than $2,000 and less than $10,000, and one count of Burning Personal Property to Defraud an Insurer. Each charge carries a potential maximum penalty of five years in prison. He had reported his vehicle stolen to local police, and the vehicle was found on the side of the road in a different location; the vehicle was on fire at the time of discovery. He submitted a claim to his insurer, and through the investigation, he admitted to setting the vehicle on fire and reporting it stolen because it had mechanical issues.
