Animal Mortality Fraud – Ohio

Amount – $245,000

An Ohio man has been sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of felony insurance fraud, felony attempted insurance fraud, and felony forgery. Other charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement. The man purchased an equine mortality policy to insure a horse for $150,000 and then filed a fraudulent death claim for the animal. He then stole the identity of an associate, obtained another policy for three horses, and made a claim for another supposedly dead horse for $95,000.
