Fraud of the Week
Auto Fraud – California
Amount – $80,000+
The leader of an auto fraud ring was arraigned on 39 felony counts of insurance fraud for leading a ring creating "paper collisions" in order to collect over $80,000 in underserved claims payments. False documents including fake medical records and police reports were used to file claims for accidents that never happened. The man used multiple identities, including those of his minor children, and recruited people from social media to say they had been passengers in these bogus accidents.
