Fraud of the Week

Auto fraud – Pennsylvania

Amount – Unknown

A woman and her fiancé filed back-to-back insurance claims, only to discover that filing multiple claims for the same damage is insurance fraud. They first filed a claim for scratches to the vehicle to one insurer before discovering the policy's deductible was $1000. After lowering the deductible to $500, they filed a claim for a hit and run, using photographs of the same damage they had filed with a different insurer a few years earlier. They told investigators they had not been paid for the first claim, stating a relative had told them it was ok to file a new claim for that damage. The couple is facing two counts of felony insurance fraud and one count of misdemeanor theft by deception.
