Fraud of the Week
Boat claim – Kansas
Amount: $21,483.13
An insured filed not one but two fraudulent claims on his boat. He first claimed his boat had been stolen between February and May of 2018, for which he received $21,483.13 from his insurer. He made another claim for the supposedly stolen boat between November 2018 and March 2019. The second claim was not paid because the insurer suspected fraud. Upon investigation of the claims, it was determined that the identification numbers submitted in the claims belonged to boats that did not exist. The man has been convicted on two charges of insurance fraud and ordered to pay more than $21,000 in restitution in addition to serving twenty-four months of supervised probation.
