Fraud of the Week

Auto Fraud – California

Amount – $17,293

A man was arraigned on fourteen counts of felony insurance fraud for submitting fourteen phony claims to six different insurance carriers using stolen identities. The man obtained the identities from a stereo and tint shop where he worked briefly. He had two damaged BMW's that he used as the damaged vehicle for the claims, and he presented the same damage in each claim. The man posed as the various stolen identities and reported accidents under those names, while claiming that he was the other party involved in the accident. An investigation was launched after multiple companies flagged the department about claims they had received.
