The Washington County Department of Insurance Fraud Division is filing a case against a towing operator who features his towing operations on YouTube with defrauding AAA. The man reportedly told one person to file tow claims with AAA instead of being paid by the man for delivery of construction materials. Another person was told by the man to sign up with AAA and file a claim for the towing job a few days after the tow had already occurred. Another incident, which was filmed and shown on the YouTube channel, was for an off-road vehicle, which AAA does not provide coverage for. The off-road vehicle was towed, and the off-road vehicle owner used a friend's AAA membership for the tow and submitted a claim using the towing company to transport the vehicle to another area. Between January 2019 and August 2020 over $15,000 in fraudulent claims were paid by AAA to the towing company for claims containing known material misrepresentations, including claimed services and/or tow destinations.
