After a two-year trial, a fraud network of family and friends have been ordered to pay QBE Insurance $300,000 for costs plus exemplary damages for a staged accident. A man rented a van from a rental company and ran into the back of a Lexus, which then ran into the back of an Alfa Romeo. Upon investigation, the reports had several inconsistencies, and it was discovered that the crash hadn't occurred when they reported it had happened, that two of the three vehicles involved were in the process of being sold from a garage belonging to the driver of the Lexus' brother. The van had been at the parents' house of the driver of the Lexus immediately before the accident.
