Fraud of the Week

Insurance Fraud – New Hampshire

Amount – $268,202.17

We write about fraud each week, knowing that fraud plagues the industry and costs billions annually. Most insurance departments have fraud units that investigate fraudulent claims and provide prosecutors with information on those attempting to defraud carriers so they may be prosecuted.

The New Hampshire Insurance Department has reported that a total of eighteen cases have been investigated and submitted for criminal prosecution, and the total value of the claims is $268,202.17. The claims include food poisoning, disability claims, workers compensation claims, buying policies after the loss occurred and then claiming the loss occurred after the policy was purchased, mysterious disappearance of jewelry, and a large number of fake medical records.
