Fraud of the Week
Homeowners Fraud – Iowa
Amount – Unknown
An Iowa man was robbed in December 2017 but had no renters insurance. He bought a policy a few days later and reported a claim for stolen goods. Since the police report showed the loss occurred before the policy inception date, the insurer reported the bogus claim to the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau. Arrest warrants were issued for the man and police went to the residence to pick the man up. He escaped through the back of the house, climbed a fence, and started running from the police. The police gave chase and the man refused to stop when commanded to. He fell while running and was caught by police then. He's being held on a $24,600 bond and faces charges of felony forgery, felony charges of probation violation, third-degree fraudulent practice, misdemeanor charges of harassment and interference with official acts.
