We have a Business Auto form written with either Symbol 1 or Symbol 8 and the following scenario: A salesperson is given a company credit card which is used for paying for a vehicle being rented from one of the rental companies.
The rental company at the airport wants the person's name on contract, so the salesperson fills it in that way and then pays for the rental using the company credit card.
How does the company policy respond?

If the insured has Symbol 1 on the policy, then any auto is covered. Therefore there would be coverage for the rental vehicle, even if it was rented by the employee.
Symbol 8 is different however. Symbol 8 will not cover an employee who either uses their own car in the business, or an employee who rents a car for business use in their own name. In order for the policy to respond in the situation you describe, the insured would need to add Symbol 9 to cover nonowned autos. Symbol 9 would cover rented autos the named insured uses in their business.
