We believe the insurance company has misinterpreted the policy regarding collapse, can you look at the documents and let us know what you think?

Solar panels are installed on the carport and power room directly below. The insured specifically increased the typically 10% coverage for other structures to be sure that he was covered. The solar panels installed on the carport are essential and are the only power source for the dwelling and payments were made on the power room. The carport appears to be servicing two functions, covered parking and mounting for solar panels directly above the power room. Denial letter is quoting only a portion of the additional coverages which I feel is misleading. Then referencing section 1 losses insured then section 1 losses not insured?

While the insured did ensure that he had sufficient coverage for other structures, the collapse coverage specifically provides coverage only for "building structures" as defined in the policy. That definition clearly states that a "building structure" is fully enclosed with permanent walls and a roof. The carport does not have walls and therefore does not fit the definition of "building structure". The carrier is correct in this instance, there is no coverage for the collapse of the carport.
