Fraud of the Week
Vehicle Arson – Pennsylvania
Amount – Unknown
An insured man is charged with arson, insurance fraud, making false reports and risking a catastrophe for burning his vehicle and then reporting it as stolen. The vehicle was recovered five days after the reported theft three miles from the insured's home, burned to the point that the vehicle identification number had to be used to identify the vehicle. During the investigation, the insured's cell phone was confiscated. Police noted that his search history included a search for "how to set your car on fire and make it look like an accident". Apparently he missed a key detail.
