A former insurance agent in Johnson County, Kansas, has pleaded guilty to several charges associated with insurance fraud and has been ordered to pay nearly $86,000 in restitution.

An investigation by the Kansas Insurance Department found that the former agent was involved in an insurance fraud scheme that involved submitting false applications for insurance policies for his unknowing and unwilling customers. He then would claim commission for the sale of these policies and would not tell the customers about the policies and the premiums that went unpaid. The policies were eventually canceled for non-payment, but investigators found that the former agent still kept the commissions.

He pleaded guilty in District Court to one count of a fraudulent insurance act, one count of theft, one count of unlawful acts concerning computers, and three counts of identity theft, and has been asked to, and has agreed to, pay $85,897 in amends. His sentencing date has been set for March 17, 2021.
