Stolen Property – Iowa

Amount – $10,000+

An investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division Fraud Bureau lead to a man pleading guilty to one count of Insurance Fraud – Presenting False Information (Class D Felony) and one count of Theft 2nd Degree (Class D Felony). The man had made multiple claims that his premises had been broken into and over $10,000 worth of property had been stolen. Receipts the man presented with his claims turned out to be inflating the value of the property he claimed had been stolen or were for property the man never owned in the first place. He was sentenced to to 5 years in prison for each count to be served concurrently. He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $3,674.50, and a total of $1,500 in fines which were suspended.
