Fraud of the Week
Falsified claims – Washington
Amount: $65,922
A Washington man has been charged with first degree theft, second degree theft, and four counts of insurance fraud for multiple accidents and claims filed with various companies.
Between June 2018 and April 2019 he filed claims for three motorcycle accidents and one theft of property from a rental car. A motorcycle was declared a total loss in the first accident; he kept the vehicle which reappeared in the last accident. Upon investigation the insurer noticed similarities between that accident and previous accidents, including identical photos and receipts. The man also created lost wages documentation from a company where he was never employed, altered medical bills for various claims, and duplicated and altered receipts for riding gear.
