Fraud of the Week

Auto arson – California

Amount – $30,500

Two men have been arrested on multiple counts of insurance fraud and arson for conspiring to burn a vehicle in order to receive a claim settlement of over $30,000. The morning of the fire the insured's son arrived on the scene stating the vehicle had been stolen while he was at work. He filed the claim on his parents' behalf and turned over his cell phone logs as part of the claims investigation. Those logs discredited the son's statements as to his activities at the time of the fire, and a coworker confessed to being paid $500 to set the car on fire.
