Agent Fraud – Maryland

Amount – $201,963.89

A Maryland agent has been sentenced to a seven-year sentence with all but eighteen months suspended, five years of supervised probation and ordered to pay $31,270.99 in restitution for stealing premiums from at least seventy-seven identified customers. Stolen premiums totaled $201,963.89 and should have gone to Erie, The Hartford, Foremost, USAssure, Tapco, and Apogee to purchase coverage for customers. Instead, he either made partial payments and kept the rest, or kept all of the payment, leaving customers totally uninsured. Customers didn't find out until they received cancellation notices, notices of suspension from the MVA, or filed a claim only to discover they didn't have a policy.
