Allstate has announced that it is going to be providing a "Shelter-in-Place Payback" to help its personal auto customers during the COVID-19 outbreak. The company has also decided to offer free identity protection to all Americans for the remainder of the year.

Personal auto insurance customers of Allstate, Esurance, and Encompass will receive a Shelter in Place Payback, of 15% of their monthly premium in April and May. The payout will cost the company over $600 million. The money will be credited back to their bank account, credit card or Allstate account.

The company said this payout is only fair because during a time when there are shelter-in-place mandates country-wide, personal auto customers will be driving much less than normal, so they will present a lower risk than they usually would.

Allstate is also offering free identity protection, noting that the shelter-in-place orders require us to conduct work and take classes virtually which increases exposure to cybercrime. Allstate Identity Protection will be provided for free for the remainder of the year by the company, with no requirement to opt-out. The service will help protect individuals from identity theft and financial fraud and provides more control over digitally shared information. Any U.S. resident can sign up for the service during April or May. The protection will be provided through December 31, 2020.
