Louisiana lawmakers will again attempt to make car insurance rates lower in 2020. At least six of the nearly 60 bills that have already been drafted have the goal to reduce auto insurance rates, either by adding incentive to settle after an accident, of restricting how rates are calculated prior to an accident.

Other bills that have been introduced could prevent insurers from calculating insurance rates based on credit scores, gender over the age of 25, whether a person has been widowed, or whether that person has been deployed in the military over the last six months.

The legislative session begins in March and more insurance bills could potentially follow.
