We have a homeowner who had a fire. She had some items that the contents adjuster doesn't want to put on the contents list. The adjuster indicated that anything pertaining to the structure that isn't being used is such as new door knobs in packages, dead bolts not attached, cans of paint, new trim in package can't go on the contents list. Your thoughts?

Cans of paint and door knobs, even if they're for the house, are personal property until they're actually attached as part of coverage A. They're infinitely portable and the insured could change his mind and take them back for a different style or color. They're personal property until put in use as part of the dwelling.
