A mother and son were each charged with filing a false insurance claim which is a felony in Washington state. The son rear-ended another vehicle at 7:50 in the morning; at 8:15 his mom called the insurance company to add his vehicle to her policy. The accident was reported to the carrier at noon, and the carrier was told that the accident occurred after 9 a.m. Unfortunately, the driver of the other vehicle stated that the accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. The carrier denied the claim and reported it to the insurance department's Criminal Investigations Unit. (CIU).
