Homeowners Fraud — California
Amount: $67k
An ex-San Francisco sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after she lied about her department-issued firearm being stolen. She told her insurance company that the gun and other personal items were stolen from her home in a burglary. Prosecutors discovered that the firearm was actually in possession of an ex-boyfriend of the fraudster, who was a former inmate at the county jail. She filed a $67,000 insurance claim to hide the fact that she had illegally given her ex the gun.
