Workers' Comp Fraud — Massachusetts

Amount: Unknown

A former Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) trolley driver is now serving a three-year state prison sentence for convictions of perjury and stealing workers' compensation. The trolley driver paid a man $2,000 to attack him with a trick-or-treat plastic Halloween pumpkin while the attacker wore a Michael Myers mask. The attack occurred two days before Halloween in 2016. The former trolley driver met with a friend at a Hooters restaurant on Oct 26th 2016 and paid the man $2,000 to stage the assault. At this meeting, the two men planned the attack. Investigators discovered bank records showing withdrawals and deposits consistent with the transaction.

The trolley driver was convicted by a Suffolk Superior Court jury on five counts of workers' compensation fraud, two counts of insurance fraud, misleading police, and making a false statement under penalties of perjury for the attack.
