Regulations issued by the New York State Department of Financial Services ("DFS") that would severely alter the current practices of title insurance companies and agents are going into effect on February 1.

Unless, that is, lobbyists succeed in persuading legislators to pass legislation altering the regulations.

Shane Goldmacher is reporting in The New York Times that lobbyists are pushing legislation that would "undercut" the new rules, with the support of the chairs of the insurance committees in the New York State Senate and New York State Assembly.
