Stolen Property—California

Amount: Unknown

A man convicted of thirty-seven counts related to fraud was sentenced to twenty-one years in prison. Initially he had been accused of hiring a fellow inmate to kill nine witnesses against him in an insurance fraud and embezzlement case. In that case, he was accused of cooking the books at a junk business and stealing high-priced equipment. Jurors didn't believe the other convicts though, and he was acquitted of those charges. However, while running the junk business, he set up his own cars to be stolen or burned, took money from the junk business, and stole a $38,000 generator.
