Jewelry Theft Fraud—Pennsylvania
AMOUNT: $5,900
A Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty in faking a theft claim for a pearl necklace and other jewelry of his deceased mother. The claim was made in 2011, when the man claimed the items were stolen while he was on vacation. In reality he sold the necklace in New York for $900, while receiving $5,400 for the claim. He was ordered to pay $5,400 plus another $500 penalty and was sentenced to three years probation and twenty-five hours of community service.
