The National Hurricane Center says Hermine is likely to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane when it lands in Florida on Thursday night or early Friday.
The Atlantic should have a near-average storm season, producing four to eight hurricanes before it ends in November, according to NOAA Administrator Kathryn Sullivan.
Hurricanes are feared storms for good reasons. And, with winds that can exceed 155 miles per hour, the damage they leave in their wake can be staggering.
