An association representing Nationwide Insurance agents who aretransitioning to independent agent status has entered into anagreement with the National Association of Professional InsuranceAgents (PIA National). Under the agreement, Nationwide InsuranceIndependent Contractors Association's (NIICA) hundreds of membersacross the U.S. will become members of PIA.

On April 16, 2018, Nationwide announced its decision to shiftentirely to an independent agency distribution model by July 1,2020. At the time of its initial announcement, Nationwide alreadyhad relationships with more than 10,000 independent agents acrossthe United States.

"We extend the warmest welcome to all the Nationwide agents whowill be joining the ranks of independent agents, and also joiningPIA," PIA National President Dennis D. Kuhnke said in a statement."This is yet another illustration that the independent agentdistribution system is by far the insurance distribution system ofchoice and that PIA is the best choice for independent agents."
