It's not what you're doing that's causing you to get badresults. It's how you're doing what you're doing.

The dirty little secret of business success is that almost anystrategy works. Done enough times by the right people, almostany idea you have will work. You will get results.

You could have “Tuesday Morning Free Orange Juice Day” at yourlocal business — and eventually, it would catch on. It mightnot be as effective as other strategies. It may not even make youenough money to be worth all the hassle. But it will work.

You could send out a weekly newsletter marketing your serviceswithout any words — only memes and GIFs. And as crazy as it seemsto send out a newsletter without any news or writing, that strategywould become your thing.

So don't spend too much time agonizing over that one magicalthing you're missing that will transform your business and catapultyou magnificently forward. Pretty much any idea willwork. How you do what you're doing is what makes thedifference, whether you're successful or not.

It's all buried in the how:

  • The details behind your tone of voice in that newsletter yousend out each week.
  • The response you deliver to angry customers when it's not yourfault.
  • The ways you focus on your work environment to inspirecreativity.
  • The amount of time it takes you to communicate important newsinternally.

Stop obsessing about what you're missing out on and startfocusing on the details. Think through every part of yourexperience with your customer and yourindustry. Dig into the emotions.

What do you want people to be thinking and feeling? Seeing andhearing?

You have to master the details behind the details if you want tobe successful.

Tear it all down and build it up a new fresh way. And then keepchanging and evolving until you get the results you are lookingfor.
