The Hawaii Insurance Division published a memorandum requesting that insurers provide certain graces to policyholders affected by Hurricanes Lala and Lowell.

The hurricane caused severe wind, rain, flooding, and other losses throughout the state and may prevent access to records and insured property, impacting insureds from complying with their duties under an insurance contract.

The insurance commissioner asks insurers to not cancel or non-renew policies due to non-payment of premium for those affected by the hurricane and give a grace period to pay the premium. Insurers may create a structured payment plan and waive lee fees. Insurers are also asked to extend the deadline for completing property and automobile inspections for those affected by the hurricane.

The memorandum is in effect through January 7, 2027, and can be found here.
