The Maine Bureau of Insurance published a news release announcing a delay in the launch of the Fortify Maine Homes Program.
The program was anticipated to be launched this summer but has been set back to 2027 due to administrative delays. Applications are not currently being accepted. The Bureau will continue to provide updates as they prepare to open in 2027.
The program will provide grants to homeowners to fortify their homes against severe weather. To be eligible for the grant, homeowners must be Maine residents, and the home must be their primary residence. The home must be structurally sound and must have homeowners insurance. If in a flood plain, the home must have flood insurance.
The program will provide grants for two types of projects: roof replacement projects and flood resiliency projects. The roof replacement projects must comply with the IBHS FORTIFIED standards, which are built to withstand hurricane winds and rain. Homeowners with fortified homes may qualify for premium discounts.
