The Louisiana Department of Insurance published a bulletin reminding insurers of the requirements under Regulation 136 – Fortified Homes Premium Discounts.
Insurers are required to offer premium discounts for residential properties that have achieved a FORTIFIED designation, as set by the IBHS. Insurers are also required to be knowledgeable about the program, any insurance laws governing the program, and be able to convey that information to insureds.
The discount must be offered based on the following table, developed by NAIC specifically for Louisiana:
| Zone | Fortified Roof | Silver | Gold |
| North | 16% | 20% | 24% |
| Central | 27% | 35% | 42% |
| South | 29% | 43% | 49% |
North, Central, and South represent regions in Louisiana, and Fortified Roof, Silver, and Gold represent the level of protection offered, with Gold being the most extensive. The table was developed using Verisk and Moody's hurricane catastrophe models.
Insurers are required to offer premium discounts in compliance with the Regulation by January 1, 2027.
The bulletin can be found here.
