Last year videos appeared instructing viewers how certain model Hyundais and Kias could be stolen using USB cables to hotwire the cars. As a response, some insurers in certain areas have quit writing coverage for the model years in question because of the significant increase in vehicle thefts.
On February 9 the New Hampshire Insurance Department issued a bulletin reminding insurers that New Hampshire has a "take-all-comers" rule, that applies to private passenger autos, trucks, motorcycles, off-highway recreational vehicles, and motorhomes. The rule states that insurers cannot refuse to write a personal lines policy for any vehicle on that list. The department is advising insurers that they cannot refuse coverage for Kias and Hundais, regardless of the growing number of thefts of those vehicles throughout the country.
