Anthem, Inc., has been named to the 2019 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (the "DJSI").

The DJSI is based on an analysis of corporate economic, environmental, and social performance. This marks the second consecutive year Anthem has been recognized by the DJSI.

"At Anthem, our vision is to be the most innovative, valuable, and inclusive partner in addressing the challenges facing healthcare today. We are honored to have this work acknowledged by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index," said Gail K. Boudreaux, the president and chief executive officer of Anthem. "This recognition is only possible because of our more than 60,000 associates and their commitment to making a meaningful, long-term impact in the communities where we live and work."

Anthem noted that its recent achievements toward building a healthier and more sustainable future included:

  • Together with the Anthem Foundation, promoting an inherent commitment to enhancing the health and overall well-being of individuals and families in communities around the nation. With $40 million of active community programming in place, the foundation is focused on addressing social drivers of health, including food insecurity, housing, transportation, and education. With more than 76,000 volunteer hours, Anthem and the foundation associates are committed to making a positive difference where they both work and live.
  • Committing to sourcing 100 percent of the electricity used with wind and solar energy by 2025, and joining the RE100, a global initiative bringing together influential businesses focused on renewable energy.
  • Continuing to implement programs that make healthcare more accessible and affordable. Examples include the creation of Anthem's new pharmacy benefits provider, IngenioRx, and expanding value based care programs.
  • Reaffirming Anthem's commitment to its associates and local communities by signing the Business Roundtable's newest Statement on Purpose of a Corporation, signed by 181 chief executive officers who commit to leading their companies for the benefit of all stakeholders including customers, employees, suppliers, communities and shareholders.
