Ironshore's environmental business has introduced a smartphone app that Ironshore said allowed risk managers real-time access to claims professionals upon immediate notice of an environmental incident.
In a statement, the company said that the app simplified the reporting of an environmental event and offered additional value-added services and resources to assist risk managers in achieving the best possible outcome following an incident, spill, or other environmental disaster. Risk managers could leverage tools provided in the app, including incident history, assistance with required regulatory reporting, and communication with Ironshore's panel of environmental consultants and experts.
The app is equipped with geo-location technology that can isolate the site, using the app that reports the latitude and longitude coordinates with accuracy of within three to five meters, Ironshore said.
"Quick response and damage mitigation are synonymous with sound, effective environmental risk management," said Tom Duggan, chief claims officer for Ironshore environmental. "Swift event reaction and expert remediation are important to the risk manager's bottom line, as well as to the insured's reputational risk."
Ironshore said that the app would be provided to every Ironshore environmental policyholder. The risk manager can download the app, available on both Android and Apple smartphones, enabling the insured to push one button to report an incident. The app activates an instantaneous connection with the call center to identify the account, thereby reaching an Ironshore claims manager in less than five minutes.
The app also houses a customized alert distribution list that automatically notifies the insured's designated business partners, including insurance brokers and underwriters.
Mr. Duggan commented that, "the need to assess and react immediately is particularly crucial when addressing unexpected and sudden incidents and events to lessen the environmental impact."
