Attorney Michael Paddy has been named director of government relations for the Maryland Insurance Administration (“MIA”).
“Over the past two years, Mike has developed strong relationships in Annapolis and proven to be a solid resource for our elected officials, consumer advocates, and industry contacts,” Maryland's insurance commissioner, Al Redmer, Jr., said in a statement. “During the most recent session, he represented the MIA on a variety of insurance related issues. I am pleased to promote Mike to lead our government relations team as we continue to support our mission of consumer protection.”
As director of government relations, Mr. Paddy will be responsible for evaluating issues related to the regulation of insurance and the development of insurance markets. He will represent the commissioner in matters before the Maryland General Assembly.
Prior to his appointment as director of government relations, Mr. Paddy served as a government relations associate at the MIA. In this capacity, he monitored insurance legislation and regulations, drafted and testified on bills on behalf of the MIA, drafted legislative reports, and served as staff for the MIA on legislative workgroups and task forces, including the Maryland Health Insurance Coverage Protection Commission.
Prior to joining the MIA in 2016, Mr. Paddy was a lobbying intern in Annapolis while a law student at University of Baltimore (“UB”) and held various positions and internships with the government of Baltimore County, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Transamerica.
Mr. Paddy received his J.D. in 2016 and his M.B.A. in 2013 from UB. He received his B.S. in business administration from Salisbury University in 2011. He is a member of the Maryland bar.
