A woman who claimed that she went to a nail spa for eyelash extensions and suffered an eye injury has settled her lawsuit against the spa.

Facts and Allegations

Sherie Johnson alleged that she went to a nail spa in Chicago for eyelash extensions but that she sustained an eye injury from glue used in the procedure. She alleged that the glue used by the defendants caused a loss of vision in one of her eyes and that the loss of vision, as well as blurred vision, lasted for about two weeks.

Ms. Johnson sued the spa and its owner, Jackie Nguyen, alleging that the defendants were negligent in the use of an improper product, specifically the glue, while placing her eyelash extensions.

Ms. Johnson's counsel argued that although there were appropriate types of glue typically used by spas for eyelash extensions, the defendants used an inappropriate glue.

Defense counsel maintained that Ms. Johnson's claimed injuries were not a result of the product used by the defendants.

Result

The parties settled after an arbitration. The defendants' insurance carrier, American Family Insurance Company, agreed to pay Ms. Johnson $9,000.

The case is Johnson v. Nguyen, No. 2016-M1-300210 (Ill. Cook Cty. Cir.Ct. July 14, 2017). Attorneys involved include: Yao O. Dinizulu; Dinizulu Law Group, Ltd.; Chicago, IL, for Sherie Johnson; Margaret M. Henneman; James M. Hoffman & Associates; Chicago, IL, for Jackie Nguyen, Vicky Nail Spa Inc.
