Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (“RTA”) has announced plans for a self-piloting small plane made by China's Ehang – an “autonomous aerial vehicle” – that can carry a passenger and a small bag and fly for about 30 miles, or up to 30 minutes, on a charged battery.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA's director general and chairman of the board, Dubai aims to divert 25 percent of trips to driverless vehicles by 2030 – and it intends to have the first self-piloting vehicle in the air in this coming July.
The story was first reported by Russell Goldman in The New York Times.
