The Hartford has launched a dedicated energy practice to provide specialized underwriting, insurance coverage, and risk management services for energy companies.
“The energy sector is an important contributor to the overall economy and an industry with complex risks requiring specialized expertise,” said David Carter, the executive vice president of The Hartford's middle market business. “Our energy practice will bring together deep industry experience and capabilities in underwriting, risk engineering, and claims management to provide tailored solutions for these businesses.”
To help lead the company's overall strategy for the energy industry, The Hartford has named Ric Pena vice president of its energy practice, reporting to Tom Boudreau, head of construction and energy insurance.
Mr. Pena joined The Hartford from Zurich, where he served as the U.S. head of its energy casualty business unit. He has more than 25 years of underwriting and sales experience.
The company said that Mr. Pena will lead development of The Hartford's overall underwriting approach for the energy sector, as well as specific products, services, and distribution plans. The Hartford's initial focus will include businesses involved in the power and utilities industries and expanding its capabilities for renewable energy companies.
“Ric's knowledge of the energy sector and his strong relationships with agents and brokers will be instrumental as we develop our comprehensive, tailored approach to this market,” said Mr. Boudreau.
