Travelers Canada has appointed Duane Sanders as chief executive officer.
Mr. Sanders succeeds Brigid Murphy, who is retiring after nearly 20 years at Travelers Canada and The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, which Travelers acquired in 2013.
Mr. Sanders, who joined Travelers in 2001, has been chief operating officer of Travelers Canada since January 2015.
Heather Masterson, most recently president and CEO of Totten Insurance Group, will join Travelers Canada as its new COO on Sept. 14, 2015.
“Duane is an exceptional executive with more than 30 years of experience in the industry and a proven record of success,” said Kevin Smith, the executive vice president and president of international at Travelers. “I am confident that under his leadership, Travelers Canada will continue to grow its presence and build on the great work Brigid has done to enhance our business in this important market. We appreciate her contribution to our success and value her continued engagement.”
Mr. Sanders said, “I am excited to continue working with the dedicated and talented Travelers Canada team as we leverage our deep competitive advantages to serve brokers and customers across the country. I am also looking forward to working with Heather, who brings substantial experience and strong relationships in the Canadian brokerage community.”
Ms. Murphy said, “It has been an honor to work with the extraordinary individuals across the Dominion and Travelers. I am proud of our achievements, including successfully combining our two companies into a leader in the Canadian market. Travelers Canada is well positioned to continue to grow and flourish in the years ahead.”
Mr. Sanders has served in a range of management positions in personal insurance, business insurance, claim, and international at Travelers.
