Steve Mannik, the chief executive officer and president of General Re Life Corporation, will retire in the first quarter of 2016. Mr. Mannik joined Gen Re in 2007, after a career that included 15 years at Manulife in Canada and 11 years as a principal at Towers Perrin.

Vincent DeMarco, who currently serves as corporate actuary and head of operations, will assume the role of CEO upon Mr. Mannik's retirement. In the interim he has been promoted to president of General Re Life Corporation.

Mr. DeMarco has been with Gen Re since 1998, originally joining JHA in Portland, Maine, as head of the individual disability reinsurance business. He was promoted to corporate actuary in 2010, and became head of operations – claims and business technology – in 2012. He will continue to be based in Stamford, Connecticut.

“Steve's contributions to our U.S. life/health business have been significant – he leaves a company with a talented staff, a disciplined underwriting culture, and a focus on the future. We wish him all the best in his retirement, and look forward to the contributions Vincent will make in his new role,” said Tad Montross, CEO of General Re.
