The American Bar Association's inaugural Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section Conference, being held jointly with the ABA Judicial Division at The Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia, includes a program entitled, “The Insurance Coverage Implications of Using Your Cellphone App to get a Ride.”

The program, scheduled for Thursday, April 30, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., will discuss emerging transportation network companies (“TNCs”) insurance coverage issues and regulatory responses, including regulatory requirements that TNCs maintain commercial auto liability coverage and whether such coverage is primary or secondary to a driver's private passenger auto policy. It also will explore when the “hand-off” between the private passenger and commercial auto coverage occurs – is commercial coverage in effect when the driver is “app on” or only when a ride is accepted?

Scheduled speakers include representatives from Uber, Lyft, Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, and the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulations.
